an old Hungarian coin worth one and a half krajcár
from the Polish półtora, one and a half
The poltura was an old Hungarian coin worth one and a half krajcár, and it was struck in copper during the Rákóczi uprising. Poltura is named after it. Here is why we chose it, and how we got here.
We run a webshop ourselves, with more than 20,000 products. We used to pay separately for invoicing, couriers and chat, and every change to the storefront had to be made by hand. In Poltura those tools are part of the webshop, and an AI assistant handles the daily routine.
For the first months the platform ran under a working name.
We considered a lot of names, but none of them felt right.
By then the name was Poltura. The logo was drawn in September and took on its current round shape in October.
From November anyone can start building their own webshop on Poltura.
Over the summer we drew up a long list of names. Most of them sounded fine but meant nothing, with no story behind them. So we looked for a real word connected to trade, but not one as worn out as shop or cart, and landed on an old Hungarian coin.

We build Poltura in Hungary, for Hungarian shops first. Local invoicing services and couriers were there from day one.
With every order, money changes hands between you and your customer. A coin's name says that better than a cart or a bag.
Seven letters, no accents, no hyphen. Nobody has to spell it out on the phone, and it reads the same abroad.
Hungary first struck polturas in silver under Leopold I, modelled on the Polish coins that were already changing hands in the country. The name comes from the Polish półtora, one and a half. During Rákóczi's war of independence silver ran short, so from 1704 to 1707 the coins were struck in copper. The ten-poltura piece said PRO LIBERTATE, and people simply called it the libertás.
The copper poltura was made because there was not enough silver. We are building Poltura because we had enough of webshop platforms whose quality falls short of what they charge.

Every important feature is a separate app with its own fee
What a shop runs on comes built in

We used to work with these platforms too. We watched our shop fall over on our best days, paid for every little change and waited for replies that never came.
The campaign is live, the ads are paid for, the customers are at the door, and your shop is an error page. Nobody apologised, and nobody paid back the lost sales.
On PolturaPoltura is built for the rush, so your shop holds up on your busiest days.
Invoicing is an app. Reviews are an app. A search that actually finds things is an app. Each one is another monthly fee. You start on a cheap plan and end up with an expensive bill.
On PolturaReviews, search, coupons and reports come built in, and every price is on the pricing page, with no hidden costs.
Swap a banner, fix a typo in the footer, change one photo: "that is developer work, here is the invoice." You pay a fortune for five-minute changes, then wait a week for them.
On PolturaYou change it yourself in the visual editor, without code, and Klea helps when you ask.
Copy-paste answers, chatbots that go in circles, "your case has been escalated", then silence. Your shop is how you make a living. To them it is one account among many.
On PolturaWrite to us and a person answers, someone who knows Poltura because they build it. Your shop matters to us, because we know what it takes to run a shop.
